October is so close. My favorite month. My favorite time of the year. Halloween! Lollipoptober & Rocktober.

I have never been apple picking before. {I know Abbie is going to see that and faint!} Isn't that sort of sacrilege since I lived near a bazillion orchards? Anyways, I plan on going this fall for serious since I loveeee all apples besides Macs & Grannies.

In Between

The weather was beautiful outside today -- but the classrooms were freezing from the AC. Finally got to wear these flesh colored tights again...I love them to death. Also: can't believe fashion week begins on Friday.

Veg

Last night I went to go see Food Inc. at the Angelika with some friends {wearing a dress from Paris, thrift store belt, random necklace and bracelets}.

While the movie was not centered around becoming a vegetarian/vegan/raw foodie, it did make me reaffirm my choice to become a vegetarian. I understand that there are responsible ways to eat meat and poultry, and I encourage every carnivore to do so. The price of grass-fed beef may be expensive at first, but it will save you millions of dollars in the long run for future health problems people associate with old age, rather than what they have been eating their whole lives.

The film also brought to light other issues wrong with our food system today, from tomatoes being available year-round, to five conglomerates running the "family" farms we think of from years past, to these conglomerations keeping immigrant and other poor workers under their thumbs. These companies treat their workers just as poorly as the animals they farm. The issue of making healthy food available to people of all income levels is especially important; as the movie said, a bag of carrots should cost less, not more, than a bag of chips. 

It is worth every cent of the ticket price to see this documentary. If you're still not convinced, Chipotle teamed up with Food Inc. to offer free showings across the country. 

This documentary has changed the way I will see all food. I am not saying I won't give into that DQ Blizzard every now and again, but it has stopped me from turning a blind eye on how everything comes to be.

What I wore pre-work today.

Starbucks is losing its luster for me. Especially after I ordered an espresso hoping for one of those cute little cups, but got a regular-sized one! What?!

Oh yes, so I am working now. And back in Texas. And I have a to-do list a million and a half things long.

Lately my life has been defining the word "exhausting."

Yesterday: My History of Costume final, watched Gossip Girl, tried "After 8" & Peanut gelato, began watching Atonement {again}. Note- Peanut gelato does not equal peanut butter gelato, unfortunately.

Today: Went to the Boboli Gardens and got attacked by gnats and flies. Met up with my roommates and a mutual teacher for a tour of her new apartment {which was absolutely amazing with its 360 degree terrace and crazy Dutch plants}. Ate a fresh baked bagel with jam at Mama's Bakery and then got chocolate soymilk gelato and mint gelato. Took a wonderful nap, had dinner, and packed...

I don't understand how I have so many things but my suitcases are overflowing and I still have to pack everything I wear within the next three days plus makeup and last minute electronic things. I'm terrified that since a BUNCH of students are flying out Saturday morning, they will be strict with the weight limit.

First day of finals. The good news is that I'm getting 3/5 over with today. The bad news is that I studied for approx. 2 hours last night.

Also, I woke up at 7:30 today. WHY? I'm going to be dead tonight when I need to be studying hardcore for History of Costume. I did watch The Duchess this weekend {18th century costume}...does that count? I think it does. Cravats, cutaway coats, etc, etc.

Today was another gloomtastic, cold day in Firenze. I wish the sun would come back! It was in the 70s two weeks ago... Anyways, wearing:

These flats are at their breaking point. I have worn them more than any other pair of shoes since I've been here, and the straight-up incisions in the leather on the bottom of them prove it. I never realized how wonderful concrete and flat walking surfaces were until I started ruining my shoes from walking on cobblestone everyday.

Also, did you know that in Italy you cannot return clothing items? I bought this huge organic scarf from H&M only to find out it was square instead of rectangular. When I tried to return it, the cashier told me that I could only exchange it for the same type of item and price {unless she just meant that you can't at H&Ms in Italy...}. Good thing I found this green scarf to exchange it with!

I hope that wherever in the world you are right now, the sky is blue and the sun is shining. Summer is just around the corner :D

I absolutely suck at studying for midterms. While trying to, I can come up with 5,456 other things I "should" be doing instead of studying. So I do.

Aaron and his friend have been in Italy since Sunday. They left for Venice yesterday, though, and now I'm all alone again {until Saturday}.

Thoughts:

• I tried caviar the other night. Never again.
• I think my big toe is dislocated.
• I leave for Connecticut in a week.
• I hate {Italian} Customs for holding my package hostage.
  
• I love wearing sweats for 85% of my day.

Two midterms down, siiiiick.

I came home after my polisci one tonight and made a large amount of homemade french fries for the apartment (trying to use up my food before Friday). I absolutely love making greasy food for other people.

Anyways, I made this shirt back in October when I went back to America for fall break, obviously inspired by Camille's post. I washed it for the first time last week and all the strings sort of got tangled, and it shrunk. But I still love it.

Another gloomy, gloomy day. I am very much looking forward to milder Texas weather (nine days!).

Studying for finals has commenced. I need to start packing for the Amsterdam trip, whose transportation is looking very interesting at the moment: multiple buses and trains, and a plane ride. We are also now staying in a hostel. Mmmm, to be a college student traveling around Europe. My first weekend away from technology in...a very long time.

No need for color

I bought that mug at the aquarium last last weekend. The seals were a-freaking-dorable. And it is quite perfect for green tea when I wish to be healthy and coffee when I wish to get work done.

Today I started researching for my trip to Amsterdam next next weekend.
I. Am. So. Excited. But really, I want to visit the Heineken factory, and Anne Frank's house, and the tattoo museum, and the cannabis museum. I don't think that will all be possible in 1 1/2 days, but we shall see.

No turkey for us

I guess I wouldn't be eating turkey even I was in America since I'm a vegetarian. But still.

Tonight I went out with my roommates to Tijuana, a Mexican restaurant, for "Thanksgiving" dinner. I know what you're thinking: "Mexican food...in Italy?! That shit must be gross." Well, you're not far from the truth. Especially after growing up in Texas, I'm sort of a Mexican food snob. But it gets the job done I suppose.

Pre Game

A large portion of today was spent eating and researching the sleep cycle. This is the first time ever, that I have practically finished an assignment before the hour before it was due. My original motivation was a "Happy Night Before Thanksgiving!" open bar at this club, but that got turned into a classic rock/80's hour with no open bar (sad). But I'm still excited to get drunk off of cheap wine and dance the night away; it's been a while.
